Creekside Cellars Winery and Italian Cafe
While in Evergreen yesterday we stopped at Creekside Cellars for a late lunch. We weren’t the only ones, they were slammed. Obviously not a routine Monday, everyone seems to still be on holiday except the hard working Creekside staff. The tasting room/cafe isn’t large and the popularity of both the wine and food attracts loyal followers. The favorite summer seating, on the deck overhanging Bear Creek, was even filled on this sunny and warm December day.
Fortunately, our wait wasn’t as long as predicted and Bob stayed busy taking pictures of downtown shops and eateries. We each selected a cup of soup – tomato basil and roasted potato & fennel – split the “Guido” described as four types of meat (capicolla, sopresatta, genoa and pepperoni) piled high on freshly baked focaccia with provolone, lettuce and tomato, topped with basil pesto. We were amazed at the size of the sandwiches, we could have split a half and been satisfied. Guess what we’re having for lunch today. The cafe serves panini sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts.
A bevy of tasters surrounded the wine bar, tasting the cellar’s range of award winning wines – crisp chardonnay to rich syrah and smooth tawny port. Diners can order flights, wine by the glass or bottle.
As we were finishing our lunch the Antipasto Platter was served at the table next to us. The assortment of imported cheeses, olives, meats, grilled vegetables and stuffed peppers, freshly baked focaccia bread and dipping oil looked absolutely fabulous. We look forward to returning on a more leisurely day, ordering the platter and a bottle of wine, sitting back and feasting.
