Castle Rock Banners Celebrate Local Artists

"Hay There" by Sarah Phippen
Four Castle Rock local artists have their work displayed on banners hanging from downtown light poles. The public voted to select the artworks from among 20 finalists participating in the “Art on the Street” program sponsored by the Town of Castle Rock. During the 2008-09 fall and winter: “Is that you, Deer?” a wood burning by Fritz Anders, Dix Morris’ pastel “Morning has Broken”, an oil painting “Hay There” by Sarah Phippen and Mark C. Williams’ photograph “Crystal River” have been digitally rendered onto the banners.
Works by Rosemarie Lohnert, Colette Brooks, Brent Given and Bruce Makinney will adorn banners during spring and summer 2009.
The artistic banners are an attractive addition to the typical “Shop, Play, Dine” promotions.

ArtFest, held each September, displays the works of local artists and those selected from across the country. The weekend event attracts approximately 20,000 attendees.
A mural has been created for the east side of the P.S. Miller/Castle Rock Library. Internationally known artist, Malcolm Farley designed the 18 x 24 foot mosaic tile mural he titled “The Life of Castle Rock.”
Castle Rock is approximately halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs along I-25.
